Does individual-tree biomass growth increase continuously with tree size?

چکیده

Relationships between tree size and growth are sometimes assumed to show increasing with only until intermediate sizes reached, followed by a phase where rates decline further increases in size. However, this “rise-and-fall” pattern has been challenged studies suggesting continuously This study examined relationships diameter above-ground biomass (AGB) how such can differ depending on whether they represent an individual through time (longitudinal analyses) or the relationship was fit many trees within stand at single point (cross-sectional analyses). Using 949 long-term plots Switzerland (measured 1888 2014) including several species, sites management regimes, segmented regressions were used describe longitudinal cross-sectional stem AGB growth. The slopes of last segments analyses indicated that generally increased diameter. last-segment showed 12% had actually declined for decades. number 44%, when considering periods each tree, corresponding about 16 years contrast patterns results because declines occur different times individuals analyses), but is averaged out rarely evident from unless similar sizes. positively correlated light absorption light-use efficiency (AGB/light absorption). Interestingly, not absorption, change absorption. reiterates potential thinning delay onset declines. When all data combined (e.g. aggregated analysis), most strongly influenced diameter, relative height, neighbourhood basal area, climatic conditions, silviculture, lastly, species diversity. Cross-sectional often firstly, across may secondly, one time. doesn’t always increase highlights importance carefully which type analysis longitudinal) appropriate question being addressed.

Estimation of Tree Biomass at Individual tree, Sample plot and Hybrid Level using Drone Images

Two-dimensional image conversion algorithms to 3D data create the hope that the structural properties of trees can be extracted through these images. In this study, the accuracy of biomass estimation in tree, plot, and hybrid levels using UAVs images was investigated. In 34.8 ha of Sisangan Forest Park, using a quadcopter, 854 images from an altitude of 100 meters above ground were acquired. SF...

From TLS to VLS: Biomass Estimation at Individual Tree Level

This study explores the applicability of vehicle-based laser scanning (VLS) for biomass estimation at individual tree level, since biomass serves as an essential biophysical parameter indicating tree health. Previous work suggests that terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) has been primarily validated for biomass prediction, however, in subject to laborious relocation in practice. VLS, as an advance...

Predicting tree biomass growth in the temperate-boreal ecotone: Is tree size, age, competition, or climate response most important?

As global temperatures rise, variation in annual climate is also changing, with unknown consequences for forest biomes. Growing forests have the ability to capture atmospheric CO2 and thereby slow rising CO2 concentrations. Forests' ongoing ability to sequester C depends on how tree communities respond to changes in climate variation. Much of what we know about tree and forest response to clima...

Pecan Tree Biomass Estimates

Allometric equations were developed for orchard-grown pecan [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) C. Koch] trees. Trees, ranging in size from 22 to 33 cm in trunk diameter 1.4 m above the ground, were destructively harvested from two sites. The entire aboveground portion of each tree was harvested and then divided into leaves, current season’s shoots, and branches $1 year old plus trunk. Roots were s...
